My diamond is loose, will a jeweler charge to repair it?

Kris asked:

My boyfriend noticed that the top diamond in my ring is loose. Just barely loose, I believe. When I shake the ring I can hear a slight rattle. I can’t see it shaking, but my boyfriend says he is sure it’s the top one.

Anyway…if I take it to a jeweler, will they charge me to have it tightened? Money is a little tight at the moment…
It wasn’t bought locally. We bought it from a family jeweler while in Israel.

I take it to get cleaned every month, and they clean it for free…maybe they’ll tighten it for free. I don’t know, just thought I’d ask here first.

thank you all <3
oh, and I will refrain from wearing it 'til it is fixed, of course.

I’m looking for a specific type of diamond bracelet?

PepperLuvr asked:

It’s kind of hard to describe but I’ll try my best. It’s like bunch of strings of diamonds, not bound together but loose, and just gathered at the ends and has a clasp fastener or whatever. Anyone know what I’m talking about or know where I can find one?
Here’s kind of like what it is: http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/app.detail/walk.yah.1001~1013~D185

Now just imagine a couple of those stringy ones bound together at the ends only and left dangling on your wrist.

I recently took my 1 carat diamond stud earrings in. Now that I got them back the stem is turning dark?

6bits asked:

My husband bought a warranty with the earrings he gave me for a gift. They 1 carat studs set in white gold. They have the screw on back. I took them in for their 6 month inspection at a chain jewelry store and the diamonds were loose so they had to send them in to get tightened.
I also needed a new screw back. Now that I got them back and have worn them a handful of times I notice that the stem is getting tarnished. The part of the stem that has the grooves for the screw is getting dark grey and that has never ever happended before I took them in. I do not sleep with them or wear them in the water. The srew backs are different than the original ones. Does anybody know what is causing this? Do they change out the whole earring whenthey tighten loose stones?

Jewelery repair?

Aaron asked:

I inherited a beautiful diamond engagement ring from a family member, my lady loves it, but it has some damage that may make the diamond come loose. The diamond is held in place by 8 gold “posts” (not sure what the right word would be) and one of them is broken.

I would like to have this repaired so she can wear her ring without fear of losing the diamond. What’s a reasonable (ballpark) price for this type of work?

engagement ring diamond is loose in its setting?

sunshine in september asked:

the diamond in my engagement ring keeps getting loose. When I first got it it was really loose so I had it tightened. The jeweler said there was always a chance the corner could chip while tightening it so he didn’t tighten it all the way. So now it is loose again. It just slides a little bit when i push it with my finger nail. It is a princess cut (square) with a prong holding it at each corner. Should I be worried that it will fall out? If I take it to get tightened at a different store should I be worried about the corner chipping if they tighten it too much?
I dont have insurance on it and my fiance bought it from a jeweler that is several states away from where I am… eek

Custom ring was made badley.what can i do?

Casey asked:

I bought a really beautiful sapphire several years ago nd finally had the money to have it set into a ring. Since it’s slightly off in shape I had a custom setting with a halo of smal diamonds and a plain shank done in white gold.
The first two things that were wrong were that i had asked for it to be prong set and it was bezel set, and the diamonds were set all crooked and not well done at all. I mentioned the problem and she straightened out the diamonds for the most part. I was willing to live with it. But now just two months later the bezel set sapphire is loose. What can I do? The company is called elsarings.com

Old Mine Diamond E.G.L Certified, Looking for a buyer ASAP?

rudolph_barton asked:

Hello,
I have a 2.84 (loose) Old Mine diamond that I would like to sell. The diamond has been graded by E.G.L as 2.84 carats, S-T in color, and Vs2 clarity. I am looking for a buyer for the diamond. I recently lost my job and I am in need of selling it for a fair price. The diamond has been appraised for over $12,000, However, I will sell the diamond for as little as $5,000. I have several pics of the diamond as well as a pic of the certification. If anyone can point me in a good direction in where I can find a buyer, that would be most helpful. I have tried many online places such as jewelry websites that have classifieds as well as ebay. Most people interested are either scammers wanting me to use an (escrow service), or possible jewelers who want me to send the diamond to them so they can look at it. I don’t want to send my diamond anywhere unless it is to a buyer.
Thanks for taking the time to read this
