My mom’s wedding ring turned her finger green!? Is it fake?

Wolfgang M (??? ???????????) asked:

They are now divorced though. For the first time today since I remember, she showed me her wedding ring. She said she has always suspected it was a cheap ring. She told me my dad said he spent 15 hundred on it, but it’s like one of those rings from the 25 cent machine. Whenever she puts it on, her finger turns green. And it is gold, but you can tell in some spots where the gold paint is chipping off, but it is silver underneath, not black. So does this mean it was coated in real gold, but is sterling silver (or whatever it is called) underneath, or is it paint? And the diamonds sparkle different colors too much, and the left diamond is kind of loose and seems it would easily come out with the tug of some pliers.

Could it be fake? Like a 10$ ring or a 50 cent machine ring? Or do some real rings turn fingers green?

Only cheap metals turn your skin green. And it sounds gilded… a thin layer of gold covering a cheaper metal. Might not even be gilded… could just be a gold-colored coating. Yep, he was definitely a cheapskate. Without a doubt.

Silver platinum and gold do not turn fingers green (that’s why they’re so valuable). It might be gold plated, but what you’re seeing underneath is probably nickel.

Definitely fake. I’d wonder how real the marriage is.

Some folks have a chemical reaction in their systems to gold. This can happen, some folks get rashes from gold. My son cannot wear gold jewelry. I would take it to a local jeweler & find out the truth about it. This is the ONLY way you’re going to get an honest answer. Best to you…:)

ya it’s fake, real gold won’t turn your finger green, it may be just plated gold ring if it chips

I’m not a ring expert. But I do believe it is fake.

Yes it’s fake and so is the person that would lie to the woman he claims to love. Hey if you cant afford it be truthful and give her the respect she deserves and tell her.

I do not know that for sure why don’t you take it to a pawn shop and just ask them to appraise it for you and you do not have to sell it , unless you really want to and if they say it is fake then i guess you will know. Your father must have really been a winner to have left her with that impression . I would be pissed if i had a wedding ring and found out after many years later that it was fake but i also had more sense than that , he let me pick out our wedding rings and i went with my mother to a jeweler and we picked out what i wanted . We paid for his ring and then told him where to go and did not tell him the price but hey it is what i wanted and he bought that for me , so i know mine is real and we are still married , guess that is why lol.

Yes Its fake! There’s no way real jewelery turns your finger green!

i_ate_sponge_bob on January 4th, 2011 6:40 pm:

Real gold and silver doesn’t turn skin green. When something is plated though it will turn the skin green so yes the ring is a fake.

jimthecelt on January 5th, 2011 4:02 am:

Yes, she obviously has a fake finger!

Braydens' mommy on January 8th, 2011 1:10 pm:

actually if someone has high levels of acid in there body a real 24 kt gold ring can turn her finger green. The levels would be high from eating a lot of oranges, lemons and foods with acid in them even salt. So no matter what these other say it can turn her green.

Billy M on January 9th, 2011 7:35 pm:

Neither gold nor silver will do that. I’m afraid your suspicions are correct - it’s a cheap piece of costume jewelry - she’s well off being rid of his cheap @$$…

fuck u! on January 12th, 2011 10:08 pm:

Definitely yes the guy who gave her that ring obviously is cheap & ripped her off.
