I inherited a beautiful diamond engagement ring from a family member, my lady loves it, but it has some damage that may make the diamond come loose. The diamond is held in place by 8 gold “posts” (not sure what the right word would be) and one of them is broken.

I would like to have this repaired so she can wear her ring without fear of losing the diamond. What’s a reasonable (ballpark) price for this type of work?

I would suggest figure on budgeting $150.00 for this. You surely do not want to risk losing the original diamond so you would want it done right. You would want to find someone involved in jewelry ” manufacturing “, they would have the ability and experience to repair it properly. Also if they are involved in jewelry ” laser welding ” will enable them to repair it. There are many - many places that sell jewelry and many places that send out items to be repaired. By going to a manufacturer, preferably with jewelry laser welding capability you will be going directly to the expert and get it done properly and with out a middleman mark up. Where I live there are manufacturers listed under jewelry in the yellow pages book. With proper repair the ring will be an heirloom piece for future generations.
