How did your guy propose to you?

DisneyBride asked:

I had picked out my own ring and knew I was getting it, but didn’t know when, although I had a feeling it was going to be 22nd birthday present. We went to Six Flags, where we had our first date, and stood in front of the fountain to get our photo taken. He told me some line about his sisters friend who worked there who said they have to take so many photos before they can take a break and felt sorry for them, we never take photos so that was good excuse. When the person was taking the photo, he pulled out the box and gave me my ring. His great line was “Well, here you go!” lol. He’s a great guy but not good with words.
The bad thing was, though, the ring didn’t fit my finger at all and had to be resized before I could even wear it! During the resizing process, a diamond was knocked loose and it took nearly a month to get it repaired properly. Crazy, huh?
At least we have a good story out of it right? At the time I was crushed but I think its funny now.

So, how did it happen?
I enjoyed all of the stories and I have no idea why anyone would give any of them a thumbs down. I’m putting this question up for vote because I feel there is no best answer as all answers are lovely.

I too picked out my ring, and it had to be ordered. The company said it would be three weeks. I had a sneaky suspicion it came in earlier and that I would be getting it for Valentines day 2007. I tried snooping through the house and found nothing, then while I was dishing up our Valentines dinner, he slid the box underneath my napkin. As I sat down and put the napkin in my lap I was quite excited.

Only 60 more days until our wedding. (engaged 1.5 years)

Hi, your story really made me smile. It reminded me of when my now-husband called me to set up our first date. He suggested we go to Disneyland and I was like “uh, no, how about just dinner?” because I was afraid, if I didnt like him, Id be stuck with him all day! Wasnt that so rude of me?! lol. So we went to dinner, he took me to a really cool restaurant in Tokyo.

Anyway, to your question. We went just out shopping and hanging out in the city, and started to get hungry for dinner. He says he wanted to go to this restaurant, and as we walked up to it, I suddenly remembered this was the restaurant of our first date. So thats when I kind of knew. We sat down, he pulled the ring out of his jacket, and (his first language is not English) he says “What should I say?” It is hard to find the words for certain situations if not your language. And I said “You dont have to say anything, Ill marry you!” And that was it.

I picked out my ring also but we put it on a payment plan, so I had no idea when he had it or when I’d get it. I had a really horrible day and just wanted to go to bed and cry. We had moved into his mom’s so that I could go to school full-time and not stress about bills. His family had gone out to dinner and he’d gone to take a shower. After he got out, he came into the room and asked me to get up. I didn’t want to…I just wanted to be left alone. He practically begged me to so I did. He covered my eyes and walked me into the living room where he had lit candles in front of the fireplace. When he uncovered my eyes, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Changed my whole day!!!!!

It was actually very very very cute. To me anyways. He proposed to me 1 and 1/2 years ago when we were both 22. We both played soccer at the time. So that day I was playing the most important game of my life it was half time and my coach called me out onto the field. I asked him what he wanted to say to me and he just simply said turn around so I did and there was my boyfriend kneeling down and asked me to marry me infront of the whole soccer team and crowd! It was soooooooooo cute! I said yes right away and was so happy. So this got my teamates and I all excited so we ended up winning our game by 3 points! I was so excited. That was one of my best days of my life!

Dad was in the middle of a divorce with a wife he met in Germany (who cheated on him and played off her son as my dad’s). So my dad moved back to the US and took a job at a grocery store owned my mom’s parents in Maryland.
My mom was my dad’s boss. It wasn’t a week after they met that my dad asked her out on a date. A month later, on Valentine’s day, Dad took her out on a romantic evening stroll around a lake, sat her on a bench, got down on his knee and held out an unopened box.
Stars glittering in his eyes, he said, “Lynette, will you marry me?” My mother’s response?
“It depends on what’s in the box.” (but of course she said yes). A month later she was pregnant with me.
Suddenly, my dad’s ex came to the US and was telling him to come home so my parents were fighting cause he wanted a divorce but to mom it didn’t seem like he wanted to leave his wife.
My mother, not being very well-off, offered her all of the money she had to the woman and begged her to divorce my dad so that they could live happily ever after.
I’m so happy so say that my parents have been married for nearly 15 years now (I’m 16) and have 5 kids–still going!

We both went to disneyworld on the day of my birthday and spend the week there. We went with his family and had a blast.

We went to magic kingdom our first day there and at night we wandered back towards the castle. It was lit up and beautiful. He asked me to wait and sit at the fountain for a picture.

As I sat, I noticed him get down as if to tie his shoe and he brought out the ring. He gave me this beautiful speech about how I was so amazing and he would be honered to share his life with me. It was beautiful. I was so surprised! His family knew just beforehand because after I stammered yes they surrounded us and congradulated us both.

I had told him I liked heart shaped gems and (without my knowledge) he got my fav jeweler to make my ring (the jeweler knew my ring size and even if he haden’t my hubby had “borrowed” one of my rings)
When we went to gulf shores with his family he suggested we got for a evening walk on the beach, which was something I always do at the beach. On our way up I like to look at the houses on the beach. We passed this one cute house and I told him if I ever got a house on the shore I wanted it to look like that. (Small house with light yellow sides, blue shutters, wrap around porch, and a dolphin weather vane at the top.) On our way back down with the sun setting he suddenly stopped at that house and hugged me then got down on one knee and proposed with the sun setting on one side and my fav house on the other.(I honestly have no idea where the ring came from we were in swim suits and I had been hugged up against him the whole way) It was so amazing!
The funny part was I HATE being the center of attention so when we got back I just went and sat on the couch like nothing happened. But it turns out everyone already knew and pounced on me wanting to see the ring and ask exactly how he proposed.
Later we went to alvins island (a popular store) an got a air brush shirt that on the front it said he proposed on the beach and on the back it had our names and the date (6/5/04 yes I know it’s 654).
I didn’t tell my family when i got home but that sunday when it was time to go to church I told them I left the shirt I got in gulf shores at my bf’s (I had also left my ring off) and wanted to wear it to church so he was bringing it up but would be a little late. So they went to church without me and also told everyone else why I was going to be late. My bf and I walked in the second church was supposed to start and everyone turned to see what was so special about my shirt. When they read it they’re jaws dropped but they couldn’t say anything because church had started. They’re expressions during church were priceless.

My cousin proposed to his long-time girlfriend like this:

It was the day before she officially graduated and they went to dinner and all of a sudden he asked her and of course she said yes, it’s planned for Oct. 24 I CAN’T WAIT!

What was really funny was that my dad was helping him get the ring, and while they were at the store he recommended, the saleslady said “He’s thinking graduation” And that just was so funny for me but not for my cousin!!

mv_alva on May 21st, 2010 5:46 pm:

About three months before he actually proposed, he showed me a ring that had been a family heirloom. We both agreed that the ring wasn’t quite our style and he was beside himself with what to do. I told him that he could have the diamonds reset into a different band. He really liked this idea because it meant that he could design his own ring, and it would still be somewhat of a surprise because I wouldn’t have seen the actual ring or know when he would propose.

My fiance is a car nut, and every Friday during warm weather we go down to the local drag strip. Well on one of these Fridays we pulled into the drag park like usual, but instead of parking where we normally do he drove to the opposite end where there wasn’t anyone around. I asked why we were down there, but he was messing with something in his door pocket so I just thought he didn’t hear me.

He turned around with a little box and asked “Will you be my wife?” Of course I said yes, and the ring was gorgeous beyond my wildest dreams (although I would have loved anything he would have given me)!

So, now this little drag strip called Edgewater will forever be a special place for me, even with all the noise, fast cars, and crazy people.

We are to be married in April 2009 in the Bahamas.

He’d been looking at rings and I knew he bought it (online) and that it would be there any day but I hadn’t seen it and had no idea how fast it would get here so he really did surprise me with it.

I came home was work and was walking down to the basement where he was. I was carrying one of my cats and he yelled at me to put her down because the cats had been bad. lol Of course I asked what they did and he said that they broke one of the ornaments on our xmas tree (our cats can’t behae to save their lives so this was totally plausible lol). I asked which ornament and he told me it was our special ornament from that year (we buy one special ornament every year so I was incredibly ticked). I walked over to the tree to see if I could fix it and there was my ring hanging from our special 2007 ornament. Then he got down on one knee and popped the question of course. :-) It was really sweet and you could totally see how proud he was that he fooled me into his plan lol

It was pretty unromantic. Basically I drove us to the courthouse so we could apply for the marriage liscense. He reached into his pocket and handed me the ring and askd me to marry him.

Well, I’m only 14 so I haven’t been proposed to yet lol. But I thought I’d share another couple’s proposal I saw. Just a couple of days ago, my family was on our way to the city market (driving down the highway). There were billboards all over but I hadn’t been paying attention until one caught my eye- there was a picture of a guy and on the billboard it said:
Jennifer,
Will you marry me?
Jim
It was so sweet! I wonder what ‘Jennifer’ thought when she saw it. :]

As a stupid teenager, I let a 17 yr old guy propose to me when I was 14.
The idiot did it thru a text message.
How lovley.
Ugh. I Was so Mad.
Then after being together for almost 2 years, he finally did it the traditional way on one knee, and it was all a mess.
He cheated on me with my best friend && I’m happily living my life without the both of them since!

=]
Your story was better. lol
