Cushion Cut Diamonds?

Kuya asked:

what should i look for when trying to select the perfect cushion cut diamond? should i concentrate more on finding a square cushion as opposed to a rectangular cushion?

if the dimentions of the diamond are not as close to a perfect square, will the cushion diamond loose some of its sparkle?

I prefer as much as a perfect square as possible but you also need to ask about the 4 C’s and ask your sales person and they will show the best of the best

Find the diamond and ask what the cut grade is (even better if the have had it certified by a gem lab). It is worked out mathematicaly how much light the cut refracts so to get the best sparkle go for Very Good, Excellent or Ideal cut. Shape does not matter as long as it is graded one of these (ideal being the best obviously)

You know I don’t like cushion cut diamonds b/c it loses a LOT of the sparkle. Basically the light shining through gives it much of the sparkle. It’s like a prism so light must enter and exit. A cushion cut is set into the ring so light really cannot escape.

However some love cushion cut b/c the diamond is not as high and less likely to get abused–great for the medical field as its less likely to cut through the gloves.

Square or rectangular will not matter as to the sparkle–just which you like better. Have you considered a princess stone instead? It will still give the square look (if thats what she likes) but allow you much more sparkle.
