fizzy stuff asked: My engagement ring was a cut cornered rectangular diamond, bezel set in platinum, from a very reputable maker. One day I noticed that the diamond, while not falling out, was loose!! So I took it back to the store and they are checking it out. While Im waiting to see what they find, I would like know if anyone else had this happen or if you know how this could happen? I take it off when cleaning, cooking, washing dishes.

Kris asked: My boyfriend noticed that the top diamond in my ring is loose. Just barely loose, I believe. When I shake the ring I can hear a slight rattle. I can’t see it shaking, but my boyfriend says he is sure it’s the top one.
Anyway…if I take it to a jeweler, will they charge me to have it tightened? Money is a little tight at the moment…
It wasn’t bought locally. We bought it from a family jeweler while in Israel.
I take it to get cleaned every month, and they clean it for free…maybe they’ll tighten it for free. I don’t know, just thought I’d ask here first.
thank you all <3
oh, and I will refrain from wearing it 'til it is fixed, of course.

GKWn asked: Ok, I know this does not really go here and I am sorry. I will re-ask elsewhere if theres a section I missed that would be appropriate.
I am going to be proposing some time in the near future. my girlfriend and I have looked at rings and such together online (exactly when the actual official asking is going to be and such,is still gonna be a surprise…)
anyway, we found this site, http://www.brilliantearth.com/ and it looks *really* good. canadian, fair trade conflict free diamonds, reclaimed Gold, even the box it comes in is made from renewable forests and all that nice eco-friendly stuff, shes more into such things than I am, but I would prefer all that sort of ethically clean things as well.
but is that stuff authentic? I mean, I have seen one thing that says the kimberly process or whatever it is, is not that reliable, and another that says the canadian diamonds thing isn’t as “clean” as some places advertise it to be…
how much of that is suckering sentimental saps for their money, how much is reliable?
and what about certifications? what has me slightly worried on this place is that the certifying place that they seem to use, seems to not have the most pristine reputation and that concerns me.
also, how small is too small? whats a “normal” diamond size for such a ring? (wearing it after the marrige as well, not just for the engagement) the price difference for one more millimeter of diameter seems rather subsantial if its a good cut and all.
an idea I have thought of would be getting the diamond loose, having it verified or something, and if its as it should be, then get it put in a ring, and if not return it? how much does such verification take?

PepperLuvr asked: It’s kind of hard to describe but I’ll try my best. It’s like bunch of strings of diamonds, not bound together but loose, and just gathered at the ends and has a clasp fastener or whatever. Anyone know what I’m talking about or know where I can find one?
Here’s kind of like what it is: http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/app.detail/walk.yah.1001~1013~D185
Now just imagine a couple of those stringy ones bound together at the ends only and left dangling on your wrist.

6bits asked: My husband bought a warranty with the earrings he gave me for a gift. They 1 carat studs set in white gold. They have the screw on back. I took them in for their 6 month inspection at a chain jewelry store and the diamonds were loose so they had to send them in to get tightened.
I also needed a new screw back. Now that I got them back and have worn them a handful of times I notice that the stem is getting tarnished. The part of the stem that has the grooves for the screw is getting dark grey and that has never ever happended before I took them in. I do not sleep with them or wear them in the water. The srew backs are different than the original ones. Does anybody know what is causing this? Do they change out the whole earring whenthey tighten loose stones?

Aaron asked: I inherited a beautiful diamond engagement ring from a family member, my lady loves it, but it has some damage that may make the diamond come loose. The diamond is held in place by 8 gold “posts” (not sure what the right word would be) and one of them is broken.
I would like to have this repaired so she can wear her ring without fear of losing the diamond. What’s a reasonable (ballpark) price for this type of work?

sample image of what I mean…do you think this type of earring can easily fall off if the hooks get loose? I’m thinking of getting a pair, but wasn’t sure how secure this leverback type of earrings are….anyone has any good or bad experiences with this type of earrings? thanks.
